Site Analyzer Setup Wizard

When running the module for the first time after the project is created the Site Analyzer Wizard is launched.

  1. On the first step of the wizard select the type of analysis: Online or Offline.
    • Select Online option for site which can be accessed online through HTTP protocol.
    • Select Offline for the sites that are stored either on a local computer or Local Area Network computer.
    • Set analysis depth. The analysis depth is determined by the catalog structure of the site. For example, all pages that are placed in the root folder of the site http://www.mysite.com are considered first level pages. Pages, placed in the folder http://www.mysite.com/folder/ are considered second level pages, etc.
Set maximum number of links for analysis. Some dynamic sites may have extremely large number of pages and the complete analysis of such site may have a lot of time, resources and traffic. If you want to spare your time we recommend setting maximum number of links restrictions.
  2. Depending on the type of analysis you have selected on the first step - Online or Offline the second step will provide options for setting the address/location of the pages for analysis. For Online pages:
    • Enter the URL of the site or page. Starting from the URL you have entered the program will download your site pages, analyze them and store in its database. Remember, if you set start page higher than the first level, the program will ignore all pages below this level. For example, if you set start page by the following address: http://www.mysite.com/folder/index.html, all pages in the root folder will be ignored, as well as the pages in the folder http://www.mysite.com/folder2/.
    • Set maximum number of parallel HTTP connections. The number of parallel connections means how many requests will be made by the program simultaneously. It is not recommended to establish too many connections simultaneously in order to avoid server abuse though.
    For Offline pages:
    • Select the way you are going to analyze the resource: starting from a definite page - be selecting the Analyze starting from a single HTML document (local page) radio button or analyzing all HTML-documents in a folder - by selecting Analyze all HTML documents in a folder (local site) radio button.
    • Browse to the file or folder, where your HTML pages are located
  3. On the third step you can verify the settings of the analysis. If you would like to change analysis settings you can go back and correct them using the < Back button. If your settings are correct you can click the Next > button to start analysis.

The module consists of the following tabs:

Site URLs TabSite URLs Tab

After the program has analyzed all pages by the parameters you have specified, the pages found are displayed on the Links tab. You can reload the information by clicking the Refresh button. To perform new analysis with another settings click New Search. The Site Analyzer Wizard will be launched allowing you to start a new search with another settings.

Site Statistics - Site URLs

Site Map TabSite Map Tab

This tab allows previewing of the structure of your site in the form of an interactive outline. After the analysis the site can be displayed as a network of interactive pages, linking to each other. You can view all entry and exit points of the site.

Site Map

To view site map click on any address in the left panel, displaying all URLs found on the page during the analysis. The URL you have selected will be displayed in the center of the table. All pages, containing links to the selected page will be displayed on the left. All the pages, the selected page links to are displayed on the right. To find out the page correlations with other pages select it with the mouse. The field of every page contains numbers, for example: 20 (18) in, 8 (7) out, where:

  • 20 - the total number of incoming links to the page
  • 18 - the number of unique pages on the site, containing links to the page
  • 8 - the total number of outgoing links on the page
  • 7 - the number of unique pages the selected page links to

Statistics TabStatistics Tab

Statistics tab consists of two windows.

Statistics

  • Site Tree window on the left displays the tree structure of the site. To view the contents of the site directories expand the directory node by clicking the + symbol against the directory name. If you click on the page name the statistics information on the text of this page will be displayed in the Statistics Window.
  • Statistics window displays the table with the detailed information on the statistics of words in the selected page.
    1. Keyword. This column displays the words found on the page
    2. Total This column displays the total number of occurrences of a word on this page.
    3. Density. This column displays the percent ratio of the word density on the page.
    4. Weight. This parameter denotes the number of times a keyword appears in a page as a percentage of all the other words in the page. In general, the higher the weight of a particular keyword in a page, the higher will be the search engine ranking of the page for that keyword. However, repeating a keyword too often in order to increase its weight can cause the page to be penalized by the search engines.
Remember: in the program mean values of keyword weight are used. Some search engines assign pay more attention to the words, placed, for example, in the TITLE tag, some less. There are search engines, which do not take into account keywords, placed in the META Keywords and META Description tags. To fine tune the program for estimating the keyword weight for a particular engine you will have to change keyword weight settings in the Program Settings.
    5. Title - Link - information about the quantity of the keyword repetitions in different elements of the page

You can prevent certain words from being included into the analysis using Ignore list. Click Ignore FilterIgnore Filter and set filtering options: set minimum and maximum length for the words to be included into the analysis and turn on Ignore list. You can edit the program default Ignore list, add and delete words in it. If you want certain words to be included into the analysis even though they are filtered out by Ignore Filter, you can useAccept FilterAccept Filter. For example, if you set the minimum word length to 4 characters, some important three-letter words and abbreviations may be excluded. You can add them to the program Accept list, having previously turned it on, an the program will be forced to include them.

Export keywords and keyphrases from Log Statistics module

You can analyze your site by actual search terms by which users found your site on search engines. Open Log Statistics module on the Customized tab and select the search terms you would like to analyze your site by. After the program transfers data from one module into the other, the Statistics Tab will provide four options for Site Statistics analysis:

  • URLs by keywords - presents the list of the pages you have analyzed with the Site Analyzer module. To view the statistics of the exported keywords on a page select it with the mouse. The detailed information about the number of occurrences of the word in different tags on the page will be displayed in the Statistics window.
  • URLs by keyphrases - this will display information much like the URLs by keywords tab, but instead of the single keywords this will display information on multi-word phrases.
  • Keywords - this tab displays the distribution of the imported keywords on the analyzed pages. The distribution is rendered in the form of keyword distribution histograms.
  • Keyphrases - displays distribution information on the imported keyphrases much like the keyword distribution information.

Link Popularity - Referers TabReferers Tab

This tab is only active when referer information has been transferred from the Log Statistics Module.

Site Statistics - Link Popularity

To view site referers information select the referring pages you would like to include into the report on the Customized tab of the Log Statistics module and click Analyze by keywords in the Log Statistics module. The program will export the list of referring pages from the information, mined from the server log files and analyze your site by these referers.

The tab consists of three parts. In the left window you can view the address of the start page of your site and the number of hits on this page. In the right window you can view the list of referers, imported from the Log Statistics module. The window contains two columns: Referer URL - displays the address of the referring page and Link text - displays the text of the link that probably brought the visitor to your site. This text is only displayed if you open the link in the third bottom window, which functions much like an ordinary browser. You can navigate within this window using buttons:

  • site analyzer - go - go
  • site analyzer - back- back
  • site analyzer - forward - forward
  • site analyzer - stop - stop
  • site analyzer - refresh - refresh

To open a link in the browser window double click it with the mouse pointer. The links, pointing to your site will be highlighted.
