To install Site Statistics download its installation package from the developer site by the address http://net-promoter.com/site-statistics/download and save it on your computer. To run installation double-click it with the mouse. This will launch Site Statistics Setup Wizard, which will install the program on your computer step by step.
- On the first step of the Wizard the program asks you to exit all Windows application before installing the program. Click Next > to go to the next step of the Wizard.
- On the second step you are invited to read NetPromoter End-User License Agreement. Click Yes if you agree with the terms and conditions, mentioned in the Agreement and the program will continue installation. Otherwise click No and the installation, after confirmation dialog will be cancelled.
- On the third step select the folder for Site Statistics installation. By default the program is installed into the following folder: C:\Program Files\NetPromoter\Site Statistics. If the specified folder does not exist, it will be created. If you want to change the installation folder click Browse... and set the path manually. Click Next > to go to the next step of the Wizard.
- On the fourth step you can change the name of the program group in the Programs submenu of the menu Start. By default the group NetPromoter/Site Statistics is created. Click Next > to finish installation.
The installation program will display message saying that if you do not have the administrators privileges on this computer, the program may function incorrectly after the installation. That means that if yo do not have permissions to access some system folders, you may not be able to register the software and install MySQL. If you are sure you have administrator's privileges on this computer, click OK. Otherwise click Cancel and the installation will be aborted.
After that the program will start copying new files to your computer, which may take from several seconds to several minutes, depending on your computer configuration.
Installing MySQL
The program requires MySQL Server to be installed and launched on the computer where the program is installed. If you have MySQL installed the program will automatically detect its settings and create new databases. If you don't have MySQL Server installed on your computer, download it either from the developers site (freeware) at the address http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/ or from NetPromoter site: http://download.net-promoter.com/supplied-soft/mysql-4.1.9-win32/Setup.exe. Without My SQL you will not be able to create a profile. Run MySQL Server installation. The Setup Wizard will be launched:
- Select the type of setup you prefer:
- Typical - the program will be installed with the most common options. Recommended for most users.
- Complete - all components will be installed
- Custom - you may choose the options you want to install. Recommended for advanced users.
If you get a message saying you need to register or log into your MySQL account, select Skip Sign-Up option and click Next > to continue installation.
- Check if the installation information you have provided is correct and click Install to run installation. Wait until the Wizard installs MySQL server on your computer.
Configuring MySQL
Once the Wizard installs MySQL Server you will be asked to configure MySQL.
Make sure Configure the MySQL Server now check box is selected and click Finish. The program will run Configuration Wizard.
Click Next > to start MySQL Server configuration.
Select Standard Configuration option and click Next >.
Select Install As Windows Service check box, select Service Name - MySQL and click Next > to continue.
Uncheck Modify Security Settings check box and click Next > to continue.
Click Execute to run MySQL Server configuration.
After receiving success message click Finish to exit wizard.
By default the program is installed into C:\Program Files\MySQL folder. If you have an older version installed, you can setup new version having previously stopped MySQL service with WinMySQLAdmin or by stopping mysql-nt.exe (Windows NT/2000/XP) or mysqld.exe (Windows 98/ME) in Task Manager on the Processes tab.
Creating new profile
Profile is a set of data, pertaining to one site, which is defined as the default site. After launching the program for the first time it opens the window for creating a new profile.
- Set the name for the profile. This can be any text consisting of latin letters and digits. Other characters are not allowed.
- Set the address of the start page of your site (default site of the profile)
- Set the e-mail address, which will be used for sending e-mails with the Scheduler module.
- Set your name
After you have provided all necessary information click OK. Now you may start working on your site.
