Before you upload your website, a single page or a file, you need to fill in the following fields:
FTP Host
Enter the name of your FTP server (e.g., ftp.InternetServiceProvider.com);
FTP Port
Enter the port number for FTP connection (default value is 21);
FTP Username
Enter the user name for connection to the server. You received this name during the registration of your website.
FTP Password
Enter your secret word or code for connecting to the server.
You should have obtained all the abovementioned information from the ISP that hosts your website.
Always overwrite
If this box is checked, the program will not check the server for file with the same name prior to uploading. Otherwise each time a file is uploaded, the program checks whether there is no such file on the server already. If there is a file with the same name at the server, you will receive a notification. You may choose one of the following options: Yes - Overwrite the old file with a new one.
Yes All - Overwrite all old files with new ones without calling up this dialog.
Skip - Leave the old file on the server.
Skip All - Leave all old files on the server without calling up this dialog.
Cancel - Abort the uploading process.
Binary
Use "binary" as a transfer mode to transfer BMP or JPG files. ASCII is right and works well for TXT or HTM files. If you know that the system you are transferring to is a Windows or Windows NT system, then you can use binary all the time.
Passive
Certain FTP servers support both active and passive transfers while other FTP servers only allow active transfers. In some cases passive mode may be required for users who are behind some types of router-based firewalls or behind a gateway requiring passive transfers.
After you have entered all information, press the Connect button to establish a connection with your FTP server.
The left part of the module contains fields with local files and folders you may upload.
The right part displays files and folders on your FTP server. There is also a field displaying the current folder. The upper list shows all subfolders in the current folder, and the lower one shows all files in it.
To switch to a subfolder, you need to select it from the list and press Enter, or double-click on it with your mouse.
To switch to the parent folder, do the same with the ".." line.
When you change the folder, all FTP server fields are updated automatically.
To create a new folder in the current folder at the FTP server, you need to press the Create Dir, button, type in the folder name and press OK. If the folder is created successfully, it will appear on the folder list. Otherwise you will receive a notification on failure with a brief explanation of reasons.
To delete a folder from the FTP serer, select it from the list and press Delete Dir. After you confirm your intention, the module will attempt to delete this folder. In case when the folder cannot be deleted (you don't have the required permission, or the folder is not empty, etc.) you will receive a corresponding notification with statement of reasons for failure.
To delete files from the current folder on your FTP server, select them from the file list. To select multiple files, you may use Shift and Ctrl keys.
When the files are selected, press Delete Files. When you confirm your intention, a window demonstrating the deletion progress will appear. You may abort the process at any moment by pressing Cancel.
When some file cannot be deleted, a message will appear, detailing the name of the file and reasons why it can't be deleted. This window offers you the following variants to proceed with: Skip - do not delete this file.
Skip All - skip all other files that cannot be deleted, without displaying this window.
Retry - make another attempt to delete this file.
Cancel - abort the operation and do not delete the remaining files.
To upload a folder to your FTP server you need to select this folder from the list of local folders (on the left part of the module) and drag it over the list of folders at the FTP server (right part of the module). The progress window will show up. The upper progress bar shows the overall progress, and the lower one shows the upload progress for the current file. You may abort the process at any moment by pressing Cancel.
If the operation is completed successfully, the folder with all subfolders and files in it will be uploaded to the server.
In case you only need to upload certain files, do the following:
Select the local folder that contains files for uploading. Select the files you need by using Shift and Ctrl buttons. Then drag the selected files onto the right part of the window. The upload procedure will start.
If you need to upload all files from a given folder, simply press Upload All Files.
In case a file cannot be uploaded, a message will show up, just like the one that shows up when deletion process fails. This message window will contain explanations as to why the file cannot be uploaded.
When you are finished with uploading, press Disconnect to terminate the connection to the server.
