Using robots.txt Files for Doorway Page Management >>>

Doorway page is a trick that webmasters use to achieve a higher standing in search engine rankings. This is a page that has been specially optimized for a certain keyword or for a certain search system.

Initially these were primitive pages with no graphics or formatting, stuffed with keywords (e.g., sex, sex, sex,... earn money, earn money, earn money,... etc.) Such pages also contained a redirect link to the "right page". In this way the search engine indexed such page and awarded it with higher ranking because of high keyword density, but end-users actually never saw it, as they were redirected to the main page instantly.

For this exactly reason many search systems "don't like" redirects, including Meta-Refresh tag, and penalize web pages that use them. Modern search systems analyze the "reasonable keyword density" on a page and may skip pages with "abnormal" keyword density.

Since different search engines utilize different ranking algorithms webmasters also fine tuneeach doorway page for a specific search engine and then submit it for registration at this specific engine.

But usually search engines do not favor doorway pages and penalize sites where such pages are detected. Therefore up-to-date doorway page is practically the same as a normal web page.
